Imphal, January 18:
The DC/CCpur Mr KK Chhetry yesterday said that reports are being collected from villages in CCpur District which are experiencing shortage of food grain and famine due to large scale failure of crops last year.
The SDO/Thanlon has already submitted report on the extent of the damage while the same is expected from Singngat and Tipaimukh sub-divisions soon, he added.
It may be mentioned that the DIPR, Manipur had taken cognizance of a Report in The Sangai Express on Dec 5 last year titled "Acute famine stares at CCpur District", about the prospect of famine in the Hills due to failure of Jhum cultivations last year and had sent the same report in facsimile form to the PCS Department for further investigation and action.
The PCS Dept in turn, has directed the DC/CCpur to report on the matter for necessary relief measures.
The DC/CCpur further said that he had recommended that at least 10 bags of Rice be immediately sent to the 7 villages mentioned in The Sangai Express report as a preliminary relief measure.
He also said that he will be sending reports to the concerned authorities for famine relief measures for the whole District in general after ascertaining the actual condition.
