As the prosecution failed to prove its attempt to murder charge way back in 1991, the Additional Session Judge (Fast Track Court), Manipur East has acquitted two accused persons who happen to be father and son.
The court disposed its ruling acquitting the duo on Jan 10.Prosecution story said that the accused persons Heikrujam Tomba of Tharoijam Village and his son H Guneshwore Singh of Patsoi Part IV had on March 16, 1991 abducted one Koijam Gopal of Tharoijam Awang Leikai and tried to strangulate him with a plastic rope.
Lamshang PS had in March 1991 registered an FIR on the matter against the duo under section 356/352/307/34 IPC.
Case dossiers stated that an earlier court had on Jan 16, 1994 framed charges against the two person U/s 346/307 IPC.
The prosecution during the trial had produced eight prosecution witnesses, it also said.
In its judgement, the Fast Track Court ruled that the prosecution has utterly failed to prove that the accused persons tried to kill Gopal and thereby the two were acquitted of the charge U/s 346/307 IPC.
Their personal and surety bonds are also cancelled, ruled the Court.
