Imphal, April 17 2021:
The call for justice for Sanaton has gained new muscles with several civil society organisa-tions including AMUCO, UCM and students bodies joining the cause today.
At a public meeting organised at Khurai Lainingthou Awangba Shanglen today under aegis of Justice For Sanaton Athokpam [JAC], the civil society organisations and student bodies including AMSU and DESAM demanded that police file an FIR in the case and investigate the case efficiently and impartially.
It may be recalled here that Sanaton Athokpam was a 5th Semester MBBS student and he was reportedly found hanging with both hands tied behind inside a RIMS hostel on March 15 .
Even as the Government had ordered a Magisterial enquiry, the cause of the death has not been made public.
Meanwhile, the public meeting held today took several resolutions to strengthen and intensify the movement for justice for Sanaton.
The meeting expressed suspicion that RIMS authorities may be involved in the case as the investigating agency is "suppressing the truth of the case".
Even after a month, the investigating agency concerned has not made public any detail of the case and the truth behind the death.
There is strong suspicion of 'involvement' RIMS authorities in the case as the investigating agency is 'suppressing' the truth of the case, said a resolution of the meeting.
Further, the meeting reiterated the demand of the JAC (Justice For Sanaton Athokpam) that the Director of RIMS and the Warden of the hostel, where Sanaton was staying, should be suspended immediately.
The police have not yet filed an FIR (First Information Report) in the case and moreover, the postmortem report and the inquest report have not been made public yet, withholding the cause of Sanaton's death.
The police should file an FIR as demanded to conduct the investigation effectively.
Further, the cause of the death, the postmortem and investigation reports should be made public and the warden of the hostel should be interrogated, resolved the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, AMUCO (All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation) secretary in-charge, Santosh promised the JAC (Justice For Sanaton Athokpam) its support.
Poirei Leimarol president Memchoubi, WASEDEV president Tharaksana, Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup president Momon, Kanglei Ima Lup president RK Sanahanbi, Nupi Samaj president Ramani, AMKIL vice president Nganbi, CHITUWA president Purnimashi, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup president Mema, Justice For Sanaton Athokpam president Thangjam Memi and retired Professor (MU) Konsam Ibo Singh attended the meeting as presidium members.
