Bail hearing of Samarjit adjourned

Imphal, April 17 2021:
Special Judge NIA Manipur today adjourned the bail hearing of Narengbam Samarjit, self proclaimed "External Affairs and Defense Minister of Manipur State Council (Government-in-exile )" and former chairman of Salai Group of Companies due to paucity of time and fixed April 19 (Monday) for further hearing of the petition.
Special PP NIA and counsel of the petitioner were present for the hearing during which the latter filed two documents before the Court for perusal at the hearing.
Narengbam Samarjit was remanded to judicial custody till April 26 in connection with a case registered against him by the NIA on April 12 .
It may be mentioned here that Narengbam Samarjit had on October 20, 2019 announced the formation of the Manipur State Council from London and declared himself and Yambem Biren as the External Affairs and Defense Minister and Chief Minister respectively of the Council.
The NIA after investigation of the case submitted their charge sheet against N Samarjit, Yambem Biren, Elangbam Brojendro, Narengbam Biswajit and Akoijam Deepa Anand along with all relevant documents and material objects before the Court on March 23, 2021 .
Subsequently, Special Judge NIA Manipur issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against N Samarjit and Yambem Biren on March 24, 2021 N Samarjit was detained by the officials of the Bureau of Immigration at New Delhi Airport and later arrested by NIA on March 25, 2021 .
He was brought back to Imphal on March 29 .
