Drivers' unions call 48 hrs bandh

Condemning the attacks on transporters near Kaiphundai yesterday, the All Jiribam Road Transport Drivers' Union (AJRTDU) and All Manipur Road Transport Drivers & Motor Workers Union (AMRTDMWU) have called a Statewide 48 hours general strike with effect from this midnight.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary of AJRTDU, L Maniton Singh said that the two unions vehemently condemned the offensive acts which targeted transporters carrying essentials by armed miscreants on National Highway no 37.He, however, informed that essential services and media will be exempted from the purview of the bandh and sought the support of the public to the general strike.
Meanwhile, the Senapati District Drivers' Welfare Union and the Surface Transport Hill Areas Drivers' Welfare Union have pledged support to the general strike.
