Fire safety awareness programme held

As a part of National Fire Service Week, a one-day awareness cum training programme on fire safety was held yesterday at Pukhrimapal Community Hall at Nameirakpam Leikai.
The programme conducted under the theme "Maintenance of Fire Safety Equipment is Key to Mitigate Fire Hazards'' was jointly organised by Yumjao Lairembi VLF, Thongju Part-II, Nameirakpam Leikai and Manipur Fire Service.
At the function, personnel of the Manipur Fire Service demonstrated ways to prevent LPG accidents.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director of Manipur Fire Service, L Nabachandra stated that at least 35 people died daily due to accidental fire on average in the country as per a report of the National Crime Records Bureau.
Pointing out that fire accidents due to gas leakage are common in the State, he urged the gathering to replace the pipe of cooking gas once every two year and regulator once every 5 years to prevent accidental fire.
National Fire Service Week is observed every year from April 14 to 20 to pay homage to the incredible commitment and sacrifice by the 71 Fire Service personnel during an unfortunate mishap on April 14, 1944, at the Victoria Dock, Mumbai.
