Jiribam, June 16 2012:
In the absence of higher educational institutes, students of Jiribam subdivision in Imphal East district are left in the lurch.
Though there are some schools where students can complete till secondary level, the students find themselves lost at the crossroads when it comes to higher studies.
Other than few, who could afford to send their wards or children to nearest places like Silchar, Cachar (in Assam) or Imphal, most of them had had to call it quits as they could not afford to pursue their higher studies outside the subdivision.
It may be mentioned that the only college in Jiribam subdivision is the Jiri Aided College.
The college offers study only in the Arts stream.
Besides, the Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School, which is known for producing the highest number of successful students among the private and government institutes in Jiribam is also said to be understaffed.
The school is said to have accomodated around a thousand students without adequate infrastructure and manpower, according to the principal of the school, S Maniton, who was decorated with the Best Teacher Award by the State Government in 2011 .
