Call for nurturing planted saplings marks 65th Van Mahotsava

The Divisional Forest Office of Tengnoupal Forest Division, Chandel organised the 65th Van Mahotsava celebration 2014 at United College, Lambung in Chandel District today.

Thumdal Anal, Principal of United College Lambung as guests of honour.
While speaking at the function, E.Priyokumar noted that our environment is rapidly degrading in the State during the last few decades.
As a result, the problems of Climate change and global warming were felt in our state too.
He further said the responsibility of preserving forest does not lie only with the concerned department but every one of us has our own responsibility in it.
And we cannot succeed in preserving our environment without the co-operation of the people, he added.
So, every one of us should take the responsibilities to preserve and protect the environment particularly the forest and make our environment more green, the Police Officer appealed.
While deliberating on the origin and objectives of celebrating Van Mahotsava- a festival of tree Plantation in India, RK.
Amarjit, DFO Tengnoupal Forest Division, pointed out the reason for the failure of afforestation programme taken up in the state was due to lack of caring of the saplings planted.
He said that in our state, most of us often ignored to nurture the saplings after planting them which is the most important responsibility on our part.
As a result, the percentage growth of forest cover in the state is low despite several agencies, NGOs and Government department taking up taken up afforestation programme.
Therefore, whenever we planted a sapling, we should take the responsibility for caring it for at least 3-4 months, the Forest Officer said.
As a part of the programme, a tree Plantation drive was also carried out in and around the College Campus by the dignitaries, staffs and students of United College, Volunteers of NYK Chandel and departmental staffs of Tengnoupal Forest Division.
The 65th Van Mahotsava 2014 festival was also celebrated by Range Forest Officer, Sadar East Range Chingmeirong today at Maharabi Awang Leikai Commnity Hall, Chingmeirong, Imphal East.
The function was attended by Rajendro, president of Maharabi Club as Chief Guest; Th Mahendra Pratap Singh, Conservator of Forests (Central Circle) as President while DK Vinodkumar, Divisional Forests Officer (Central Forest Division); L Ingocha Singh, Member of Potsangbam GP Ward no 1 and Y Radha Devi, Member of Potsangbam GP Ward no 2 as Guests of Honor.
As part of the programme, tree saplings were planted at Maharabi area.
