A woman who had reportedly gone to hand over Athenpot for Ningol Chakkouba was found dead in the community pond of Sangaiprou located opposite to St Joseph's School at around 5.30 am yesterday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Ngangom Ongbi Manishang (41) w/o Ng Maipak of Nambol Khunou under Nambol PS but staying in a rented house near the reservoir of Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai.
She was the mother of an 11year old daughter.
According to family members, Manishang worked as maid in other people's houses doing odd jobs available for a livelihood.
She also helped one Babu Kabui of Sangaiprou in brewing local liquor.
In the morning of November 10, she had gone to hand over the Athenpot ahead of the Ningol Chakkouba to a Brahmin family near Takhellambam Leikai City School as well as to the house of Babu Kabui at Sangaiprou where she was being invited.
She got invitation for Ningol Chakkouba on November 11 at Takhellambam Leikai and on November 12 at Sangaiprou.
She had reportedly gone out from the house of Babu Kabui at around 3.30 pm on November 10.When her body was fished out from the pond yesterday morning, her body was naked except for the underwear she was wearing.
There was no sign of any external injuries on her body and it is believed that she may have drowned.
On the other hand, a 4-year old girl, who was returning home after a Ningol Chakkouba feast from Phoubakchao along with her grandmother, was ran over by a Jeep at Uchiwa Awang Leikai under Mayang Imphal PS yesterday.
The girl RK Tom alias Soni (4) d/o RK Inao of Uchiwa Awang Leikai later died at Shija Hospital where she was brought for treatment.
