Imphal, March 13 2012:
Pursuing their demand for removal of Sh Seipu from the post of Sadar Hills ADC Chairman, 16 Members of the Autonomous District Council have opened a camp.
Notably, the rebel Members have already moved a no confidence motion.
The rebel ADC Members have opened a camp somewhere at a Sadar Hills area under the leadership of Vice-Chairman Haokholal Hangshing and the Members camping there include three Executive Members, and chairmen of three different committees.
Speaking to media persons at the camp, ADC Member T Misao who is also president of the Sadar Hills District Congress Committee asserted that no development can be achieved in Sadar Hills area as long as Seipu remains Chairman.
Reminding that the Congress party has been running the Council since June 2010, Misao said that the Council has been unable to bring any sort of development at the grassroots level on account running the Council like a 'one-man society' by Seipu, his refusal to consult other Members and failure to implement the Council's resolutions.
Out of 26 departments, powers for 24 departments have been already devolved to the Council and in spite of several new schemes sanctioned by the Government, Seipu has been running the Council at his own whim without ever consulting the Members.
In addition to this, the other charges filed against Seipu are irregularity in attending office and failure to maintain good governance.
Saying that the camp would continue until and unless Seipu is removed from the post of Chairman, Misao demanded that a new Chairman should be elected in place of Seipu at the earliest in public interest.
He also urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and resolve the crisis without any delay.
Rejecting the reported statement of Seipu about abduction of 16 ADC Members by a pressure group as totally baseless, T Misao clarified that there was no case of abducting any elected Member by any pressure group.
He also informed that all the 16 ADC Members have been camping together.
