Imphal, June 12:
Five persons received shrapnel injuries and two including a four-year-old girl child were injured in a fire incident early last night at M.Songel village about 4 kms north of Churachandpur police station.
According to official sources, around 7.30 pm yesterday by some unidentified armed persons suspected to be valley based underground cadres fired upon the 32 Bn personnel on guard duty at the office of the DC, Churachandpur.
The BSF personnel retaliated immediately by firing some rounds.
Almost simultaneously, the Churachandpur District police personnel on guard duty at the office of the SP, Churachandpur, also fired some rounds, the sources said.
During the cross-fire, a bullet hit a gas cylinder in the rented house of one Hailet, 45, of M.Songel village.
Six persons received burn injured while one received splinter injury.
The injured were identified as Haokhosi Chongthu alias Hoasei, 45, and his wife Hilingchong alias Chongchong, 35, Tongkhai, 35, and his wife Neikhochin, 30, Hoikholing alias Hoihling, 50, and Lamkholun, 18, all from M, Songel village, and Julie, 4, d/o Doulen of Kholmun at present residing at m.Songel village, Julie received splinter injuries.
While Julie and Hlingchong were discharged from the district hospital after first aid, the rest are under going treatment in the hospital, according to official sources.
