The Manipur University task force constituted by the Governor Ved Marwah to assess the university budget shortage and charges of misadministration has recommended for excess budget authorization for the university.
The first meeting of the task force, convened by IS Laishram, secretary, higher education in his office chambers yesterday along with RK Nimai, special secretary, finance, and RK Ranjan, registrar in charge, MU, has drafted altogether four recommendations to be submitted to the Governor.
According to reliable sources, apart from recommending excess overall budget authorization for the university, the panel is also recommending that plan provisions made for the university in the 7th, 8th and 9th Plans which have lapsed should be included in the non-plan budget.
The committee, while urging for swift release of the budget, has also urged the Governor to expedite matters for passing of the vote of accounts for Manipur in the current session of Parliament.
The task force was of the opinion that this will enhance the normalization of pay in the university which has been rocked by strikes and agitations for the last few years owing to irregularities of pay.
The committee is also forwarding full details of the May and June salary bill of the teachers to the Governor for release at the earliest.
It may be recalled that the task force was specially constituted by the Governor, who is the university chancellor, to examine the university budget shortage and complaints of misadministration by the university teachers� association, and other sections.
