Two Imphal bound trucks, laden with rice meant for the Good Corporation of India, FCI, were hijacked and looted and later set ablaze by unidentified persons last night at Dimapur.
The whereabouts of the drivers of the two vehicles is still uncertain.
According to reports reaching here, the hijacking of the two trucks happened at around 6 pm yesterday when the trucks were making a brief stopover at Dimapur�s Purana bazar.
The two vehicles, one bearing registration number MN 04/4188, belonging to one L Ibohal of Kwakeithel, and another with registration no, MN/4314 owned by one O Priyokumar, of Singjamei, had lifted the rice from FCI go-down, Dimapur yesterday itself.
After the hijacking, the two trucks were set ablaze by the unidentified hijackers at around 10.30pm near the Dimapur Diphupar Police station.
One of the trucks was partially burnt.
The fire was put out by the Dimapur fire bridge.
It is unknown yet what happened to the drivers of the trucks, identified as L.Dhamendra of Keishamthong Longjam Leikai and Ch Ibungo of Nongpok Keithelmanbi, presently staying at Bamon Leikai.
Members of the Driver�s Welfare Association, Kohima, and other Manipuri driver were reportedly trying to ascertain their whereabouts, but so far no information in this regard has been received in Imphal.
On the other hand, the reports said that the police have managed to recover 30 bags of the looted rice.
Both trucks have been taken to Dimapur police station.
