The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has decided to intensify the long standing demands of the university as a whole to the new President's Rule administration for immediate streamlining and development of the university.
Talking to IFP the MUSU president, N Jiten said the first priority will be on the non-lapsable pool sanctioned by the centre for development of the university, which ha, not been utilized by the government now under suspended animation.
Jiten said the centre has sanctioned Rs 41 lakhs for purchase of science department, 25 lakhs for computer education equipments, 34 lakhs for library books, but there is not even the slightest sign of its implementation in the university.
He added that the fate of Rs 19 lakhs sanctioned under the UGC scheme for library books and Rs 50 lakhs under computer development scheme is still unknown.
He said the computer and Internet facilities provided through the V-sat installed at the computer science department to all the departments of the university has malfunctioned.
Jiten further expressed concern over the vice chancellor's indifference to such matters.
The newly extended ladies hostel wing for accommodation of more students cannot be used as the rooms are not yet furnished.
MUSU is also likely to bring up the issue of reopening the NET/JRF examination centre, which was closed down during the early 80s over leakage of question.
He said every student willing to take the test have to go to Guwahati.
