Imphal, August 05:
Reacting strongly against the prolonged imposition of AFSPA in the North East region, United Committee Manipur today categorically said that the indifferent attitude of the Indian Govt towards the region is very similar to that of the colonial masters towards its colonies.
In a statement, UCM spokesman Yumnamcha Dilipkumar questioned why the AFSPA is still being imposed in Manipur when other more insurgency prone States like Kashmir are let free with some lenient laws.
He also stated that the apathy of the, Central Govt towards the plight of the people is a testimony to the fact that people of Manipur are being treated as second class citizens by the Centre.
Appealing to the people to be extra-cautious against the sinister designs of the State Govt and the Central Govt, he stated the the people's agitation will carry on until and unless the wishes of the people are met and added that the people will not compromise with anything other than fulfillment of the demands made by the people.
Lauding the transporters for suspending their services and the Govt employees for taking a mass casual leave today, Dilipkumar appealed to all the protestors to work in close tandem with the volunteers of the 32 voluntary organizations and help achieve the long cherished goal of the people.
He also asserted that Central leader's refusal to lift the AFSPA from the State on the ground that law and order condition would deteriorate is a glaring example of the Centre's insensitiveness to the issues of the State.
