Expressing solidarity with its home State, the Manipuri Cultural Society of Kohima (MCSK) today organized a peaceful sit-in demonstration at War memorial tank in Kohima.
The demonstration was staged in protest against the killing of Manorama Devi by Assam Rifles personnel last month in Manipur and demand for revoking all black laws including the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) and Disturbed Area Act (DAA) from the North-Eastern region.
Around three hundred Manipuris settled in and around Kohima took part in the 4-hour long demonstration holding banner and placards, which read - "AFSPA is license to kill civilians", "Go back Indian Army from north-east", "We stand against violation of human rights under the Indian draconian laws", "Remove AFSPA and DAA from north-east", "Ibobi you have no moral right to be the Chief Minister of Manipur", and "we stand firm against any human rights violation in the region" etc.
Later, talking to media persons, former president of MCSK, R.K Shivachandra cautioned people would continue agitation in the event of failure on the part of the Government to repeal the draconian laws the The MCSK also submitted a memorandum to the President of India through Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta.
