Imphal, May 26 2022:
Manipur Petroleum Dealers' Association (MPDA) has demanded the government to reimburse the loss incurred by them following the sudden cut in central excise duty and value added tax on petrol and diesel.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, MPDA convener Prakash RK said that the sudden drop in price of petrol and diesel by Rs 9.50 and Rs 7 respectively on May 22 has incurred loss of around Rs 1.70 crore to the petroleum dealers of the state.
They also suffered a loss of around Rs 2 crore in November 2021 after the government cut fuel price by a large margin, he added.
Prakash then appealed to the government to gradually decrease the fuel price like it did in increasing.
In August 2021, the state government gave a 14-day prior notice before reducing VAT and the association welcomes such step, he said, while urging for similar approach in future VAT cuts.
He also appealed to the authority concerned to increase the dealers' commission, which has remained stagnant since 2017 .
Reiterating their demand for reimbursing the loss incurred by sudden drop in fuel price, he warned of launching different forms of protest if the authority fails to acknowledge their demand.
