Fish Mela on Nov 5: Minister unfolds price list

Fisheries Minister S Rajen has announced that a Fish Mela will be held on November 5 at Mapal Kangjeibung in connection with Ningol Chakkouba festival.
Speaking to the media at his office at Manipur Secretariat South Block, the Minister said that the Government is targeting to produce 90,000 kilogram of fish this year.
Last year, 65,000 kg of fish was sold, he added.
Stating that over 100 stalls would be opened at the Mela, he said that there are some changes in the rate of the fishes as compared to the price fixed in 2019.He also urged the people of Manipur to savour the fresh fishes produced by our farmers instead of the iced fishes bought from outside.
As per the Minister, catla weighing above 5 kg would be sold at Rs 350 per kg while those below 2 kg would be marketed at Rs 210 per kilogram.
Those weighing above 2 kg would be priced at Rs 270 per kg.

Rohu, on the other hand, weighing less than a kilogram would be sold at Rs 210 per kg while those weighing more than 1 kg and 5 kg would be sold at 280 and Rs 350 per kg respectively.
Similarly, mrigal would be sold at Rs 210, Rs 280 and Rs 350 per kg based on their weight while common carp would be priced at Rs 200, Rs 250 and Rs 280.Grass carp would also be sold at Rs 210 (weighing less than 2 kg), Rs 280 (weighing above 2 kg), Rs 310 (weighing above 3 kg) and Rs 350 (weighing above 5 kg) per kg.
Silver carp weighing above 3 kg would be sold at Rs 180 per kg while those less than 3 kg would be marked at Rs 150 per kg.
The price of Pengba/Khabak would be Rs 450 per kg (weighing less than 300 gram) and Rs 650 per kg (weighing above 300 gram) while Ngaton would be soldl at Rs 450 and 470 per kg based on its weight.
The Minister also stated that a certain amount of Sareng would also be put up for sale at the mela to demonstrate that the rearing of this fish species has begun in Manipur.
Saying that 56,000 MT of fishes are required in a year to meet the local demand, the Minister added that the State can produce only 36,000 MT annually.
Earlier, the State could produce only 26,000 MT of fishes, he added.
He also said that the Fisheries Department is taking up different initiatives to produce an adequate amount of fishes in the State.
