Imphal, October 27 2021:
Heinoukhongnembi Akham Leikai Election Committee has charged Soraisam Govind, husband of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly constituency's intending candidate Soraisam Kebi, of trying to create unrest by visiting the younger brother of MLA RK Anand, who shares common gate and homestead.
General secretary Akham Sanjit of the committee strongly condemned Govind's visit and termed it as an act of political immaturity.
RK Anand, who had remained as MLA of the constituency for 10 years, had never created such issues in his political career.
The local residents gathered at the home of RK Anand when they saw Govind visiting the ex-MLA's younger brother.
As they became agitated, Govind fled the scene through the back door but the public rounded up his driver and the vehicle.
However, they refrained from indulging in violent activities with RK Anand, who is a well-educated and matured person, urging the public not to harm the driver and they handed him to police, Akham Sanjit said.
He also said that there was an understanding in Kwakeithel Akham Leikai that the local residents should not organise any election related activities of other candidates since one of the residents is contesting the election.
He also appealed to all concerned to contribute in making the election free and fair.
Leimarel Leishem Yaipha Thouram Kanna Lup Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi general secretary Tongbram Nobina also decried Govind's action and appealed to all the intending candidates to help in ensuring free and fair conduct of the election as well as in maintaining peaceful environment.
