Imphal, October 27 2021:
Deputy speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly and Mayang Imphal MLA K Robindro laid foundation stones for construction of two bailey bridges at different places of Mayang Imphal on Wednesday.
Both the bailey bridges are to be constructed over the Imphal river at Chirai and Uchiwa Leirak by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD & PRD) under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Speaking during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the two bailey bridges, K Robindro noted that Mayang Imphal assembly constituency is being surrounded by water of Imphal river, Nambul river and Lokak lake.
People of the constituency face difficulty in movement due to inadequate bridges and hence need construction of many bridges for transportation convenience, he said, adding that he has been pressurising PWD and PMGSY to include various programmes for the constituency ever since he became MLA of the constituency.
Accordingly, he got programmes for nine bridges and the one at Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai had already been constructed and handed over to people after inauguration recently.
Each of the bailey bridge will be constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore and some bridges will be inaugurated before March next year and the remaining bridges at Phoubakchao, Mayang Imphal Maibam, Bengoon, Uchiwa Wangbal and Chirai Awang Leikai will be constructed in phased manner, he added.
