Imphal, April 21 2021:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh today asserted that no people should cause any hindrance to pilgrims offering prayers at Mt Koubru which is sacred to the Meetei/Meitei community.
The Chief Minister said this while handing over a Sanitizer Vehicle and three 14 Cubic Meter Mobile Refuse Compactors to Imphal Municipal Corporation, at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, today.
The vehicles were procured under Imphal Smart City Mission through Government e-Marketplace.
Responding to queries raised by journalists on Mt Koubru, the Chief Minister asserted that no people should cause any hindrance to pilgrims offering prayers at the mountain, which is sacred to the Meetei/Meitei community.
He said that the Government will take appropriate legal actions against those who are spreading fake news on the history and sacredness of Mt Koubru with an ulterior motive on social media.
Saying that Mt Koubru will always remain a sacred place and people of any community are welcome to perform their religious practises, the CM, however, contended that no man should cause any trouble to the pilgrims.
The CM further stated that any activities that aim to trigger communal tension are unpardonable.
Speaking about the vehicles handed over to IMC, N Biren said that the sanitiser vehicle with its six sprayer channel would be used to spray disinfectants at sensitive areas to contain the spread of COVID-19 .
The vehicle has a capacity of 2500 litres, he added.
The Chief Minister also stated that each Mobile Refuse Compactor which was procured for Rs 49.98 lakh has a load capacity of 13 metric tons.
The use of compactors would facilitate compressing the waste generated at different places in and around the city, thereby reducing the number of vehicles required to transport the waste to the disposal site, he added.
Commissioner, MAHUD M Joy, Director, MAHUD Th Harikumar, Corporators of Imphal Municipal Corporation and officials of MAHUD Department also attended the programme among others.
