Thoubal police arrest Bangladesh National, one still at large

Thoubal, April 21 2021:
Thoubal police arrested a Bangladeshi national at Lilong in Thoubal district on April 19, said a statement of SP Thoubal district.
Acting on reliable information of one non-local person suspected to be a foreigner residing in Lilong area by impersonating himself as an Indian citizen, a police team of Lilong police led by Inspector Md Riaj Khan, OC Lilong PS assisted by SI N Sudhir Singh under the supervision of Dr S Ibomcha Singh, MPS, SP Thoubal rushed to Lilong Uku Mamanga and conducted search and verification of suspected non-locals.
During the search and verification, one non-local person running a scrap collection shop at Lilong bazar near Jama Masjid was detained for verification, it added.

Upon which, the person identified himself as Mohammad Ramjan Ali (34) S/o Md Jalaluddin of Piyali Mari, PO- Monakasha, PS- Shibganj, Chapai Nawabganj district, Bangladesh.
He produced an invalid Passport VISA which had already expired on November 18, 2017 .
On further verification, it was found out that Md Ramjan Ali had been given shelter by Hafiz Matem (53) S/o Late Haj Abdul Samad of Lilong bazar and Md Jalaluddin (50) S/o Late Nejamuddin of Lilong Uku Mamang even with the knowledge that he was a foreigner with invalid visa.
Md Ramjan Ali also illegally possessed an Aadhaar card which has been verified wrongly as an Indian citizen by Md Merjen Hussen (70) S/o Late Md Naeemuddin of Lilong bazar who was residing at a rented house of Md Jalaluddin.
Md Merjen also deceived the authorities by verifying Ramjan Ali as his son during the Aadhaar Card Enrolment.
Md Merjen is from Bihar and has no permanent house in Manipur and is currently residing in a rented house in Lilong, it added.
The accused persons- Md Ramjan Ali, Hafiz Matem and Md Merjen Hussen were arrested along with the passport and a case has been registered for further investigation.
A special investigating team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the case and the larger issue of Indian residents faking credentials to provide shelter to foreign nationals.
Besides, another Bangladesh national namely Md Kheirul (35) is at large and efforts are being made to apprehend him.
He was employed by Hafiz Matem in the scrap collection business.
