55 males killed in 10 months

Altogether 55 males in the age group of 17 to 45 were killed in Manipur in the last 10 months.
According to data based newspapers published at Imphal, 34 of the 55 males were shot dead while 10 others were thrashed to death.
Seven males were hacked to death with sharp weapons.
Three others were found buried after being killed.
The identity of one man killed in the said period is yet to be ascertained.
Even as cases of suspected fake encounters in which suspected UG cadres were shot dead by security forces have come down considerably in the last couple of years, killing of male civilians by civilians goes on unabated and this is testified by the data compiled from newspaper reports.

Out of the 55 persons killed, the killers were known in 33 cases and this include five suspected cadres of Zomi Revolutionary Front (ZRF) who were shot dead by troops of 13th Assam Rifles.
However, killers of 22 victims are yet to be identified.
On the other hand, five persons were shot dead by suspected NSCN-IM cadres.
One 18 year old youth was killed in police firing at Kanglatongbi during protest agitation against a rape case.
Two other males were killed in reported encounter with police commandos.
Three persons were found killed and buried inside the designated camp of the United Revolutionary Front inside Loitang Khunou spinning mill complex.
