With a view to foster closer relationship between Manipur and Myanmar, a team of doctors from Shija Hospital would be sent to Monewa, Myanmar at the behest of Chief Minister O Ibobi to perform eye surgery on 200 people there.
A team of doctors from Shija Eye Care Foundation would go to Monewa within this month.
The doctors would perform eye surgery on around 200 people at Monewa general hospital, informed a source.
The doctors would perform eye surgery using a new technology/instrument known as PHACO.
Chief Minister O Ibobi has already intimated the Chief Ministers of Mandalay and Sagaing about Shija Hospital's offer to perform eye surgery on around 200 people who require such treatment.
Meanwhile, Government of Myanmar has appealed to the Mandalay based Indian Consulate General to perform and correct deformed lips and palates of around 200 Myanmarese children.
With the visa on arrival facility still not available to Myanmarese nationals who wish to come to Manipur for medical treatment, a number of Myanmarese people have to wait for a long time before the documents necessary for entering India (Manipur) are completed.
At present, around 150 to 200 patients come to Shija Hospital from Myanmar every month.
At present, Shija Hospital bring Myanmar patients from Moreh and again take them back to Moreh after treatment, said the source.
