Imphal, May 18:
Reacting strongly against the State Govt's decision to implement Meetei Mayek in the schools located in the hill dists, Maring Students' Union (MSU) has resolved to support any form of agitation launched by the tribal student bodies on the Meetei Mayek issue.
In a statement, Maring Students' Union Vice president K Meshim Tontang said that the union will never accept the imposition of Meetei Mayek in the hill dists as long as all the tribal languages are not recognised and implemented in the schools of the State.
Castigating the State Govt, he said that most of the schools in the hill dists are being run without proper infrastructure and teachers and added that it would have been a wise move on the part of the State Govt to focus on the ills afflicting education system in the hill dists instead of imposing Meetei Mayek on the tribals without their consent.
He further stated that the hasty decision taken by the State Cabinet on the Meetei Mayek issue on May 14 is nothing but a sign of the inherent weakness of the present Congress led SPF Govt.Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) has also supported the demand of ANSAM to review the May 14 decision of the State Cabinet on the issue of implementation of Meetei Mayek.
