Imphal, May 18:
Gearing up for the 4th Great June Uprising, 2005 observance, a joint meeting of the representatives of United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Transport Societies/Association was held today at the construction office of the Committee at Kekrupat.
During the meeting the transporters assured all possible assistance from their side in ensuring the success of the function scheduled to be held on June 18 at the sacred Kekrupat memorial site where the mortal remains of the 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur were laid to rest, informed convenor of the publicity sub-committee of the 4th Great June Uprising Day observance function A Hemchandra in a statement to the press today.
Accordingly, the transporter societies/associations will be extending co-operation in ferrying people from different parts of the State to enable them to pay tributes to the 18 martyrs, the statement informed.
The meeting further decided to hold another joint meeting on June 15 ahead of the function to discuss the routes and other necessary transport arrangement to be made, the statement added.
Meanwhile, UCM has convened a special meeting of all the family members of the 18 martyrs on May 22 at the office of the Committee at 11 am to deliberate on other necessary preparation to be made for the success of the function.
On the other hand, the publicity sub-committee convenor of the observance committee A Hemchandra, in another statement, has appealed to all concerned to observe the the 4th Great June Uprising Day collectively to show unity and concern for territorial integrity among the people instead of arranging separate functions.
Hemchandra also appealed to all to put forward constructive suggestions Hemchandra further appealed to come out with constructive suggestions and new ideas to help the Committee in organising the 4th The Great June Uprising Day function in a different manner.
If the people desired it, UCM would even like to organise a mass public rally at the occasion to re-affirm the commitment of the people to the cause of the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Cautioning the people against the sinister designs of the divisive forces, Hemchandra said that despite the withdrawal of extension of the limitless ceasefire agreement signed between the Govt of India and the Naga rebel group NSCN (I-M) from the soil of Manipur following unprecedented public agitation, there is no assurance that these divisive elements would not create enmity among the people.
These divisive elements are still very active in trying to drive wedge among the people and set one community against another giving apprehension that the State Government and all the elected representative are party to it, Hemchandra alleged.
