Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah has taken over as the new GOC of 3 Corps from Lt Gen Daljeet Singh who will take over as GOC-in-C of Western Command.
In a statement, PIB Defence Wing said that the new GOC is an alumni of St Joseph's College, Nainital and holds a Master degree in Philosophy.
He was commissioned into the 185 Light Regiment (Camel Pack) and participated with the Regiment in the 1971 operations at Longewala (Jaisalmer Sector).
The new GOC has had long tenures in the North East having served in earlier in Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, said the statement further.
He also commanded the 170 Field Regiment in which his son now holds a commission, added the statement.
During Operation Parakram, the GOC was General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division after which he assumed command of Headquarters Bengal area in January 2003.He is a recipient of Sena Medal and Vishist Seva Medal.
