Imphal, January 29:
Following the rude jolt dished out to the dissident Congress MLAs by Th Debendra, MPCC president Gaikhangam today met the AICC general secretary in charge of North East, Prithiviraj Chauhan and made it clear that if the demand of the rebel MLAs to remove Ibobi as the Chief Minister of Manipur is not honoured, then the AICC should be ready to face any crisis that may erupt in the coming days.
Even as Gaikhangam made his stand clear, Chauhan is understood to have asked Debendra to come to Delhi soon.
The dissidents have however maintained that it is not important whether Debendra comes to Delhi or not.
In a fast developing situation, the dissident MLAs met three Congress Working Committee members this evening.
The three CWC member who the rebels met were Ak Antony, Ahmed Patel and Prithiviraj Chauhan, said a source and added that during the meeting the three CWC members assured that the demand of the dissident MLAs would be met without fail.
Following the assurance, the dissident MLAs will return to Imphal tomorrow to attend the Budget session slated from February 1 .
Speaking to The Sangai Express some of the dissident MLAs camping at Delhi said that Gaikhangam gave a clear cut picture of the internal strife within the CLP during the meeting with Prithiviraj Chauhan.
During the meeting, Gaikhangam made it clear that if the AICC does not heed the demand of the rebel MLAs then the outcome would not be pleasant, said the dissidents and added that it was also made clear that the AICC should be ready to shoulder the responsibility of any ugly developments.
Taking a serious view of the matter, the AICC leadership today telephoned the private secretary of Debendra and asked him to come to Delhi failing which he should be ready to face any eventualities in the future, said a source.
The dissident MLAs are slated to meet Chauhan today at 8 pm.
During the meeting, the rebels MLAs will convey that they are ready to settle for anyone the AICC high command chooses as the man to replace Ibobi.
The dissidents will also ask the AICC leader on when the impasse would be resolved.
On the other hand senior Congressman and former Rajya MP W Angou called on AICC president Sonia Gandhi as well as Prithiviraj Chauhan and urged them to work a solution to the impasse over the leadership question.
Though the dissident MLAs have made all necessary arrangements, even procuring air tickets to return to Imphal tomorrow, everything will depend on the outcome of the meeting with Prithiviraj Chauhan.
At the time of filing this report this evening, the meeting was on with the Secretary in charge of North East.
