Imphal, June 24:
Reminding that the bandh and blockade launched by ATSUM from May 1 to May 18 was called off following the State Cabinet's assurance that it will acknowledge the issue of tribal reservation in Manipur University and also to extend the service of 276 Graduate teachers, all Primary and Hindi teachers who were on contract basis within three weeks, the ATSUM has decried the failure of the Government to initiate any positive steps towards addressing these issues even as six weeks have lapsed following the assurance.
A press release issued by ATSUM further reminded that Minister of Education L Jayantakumar, PHE Minister TN Haokip and Hills and TD Minister DD Thaisii were part of the negotiations and the talks held between ATSUM and the Government.
On the other hand, many tribal students and those expecting a small financial assistance have been left in the lurch as the TD Dept is withholding the money sanctioned for the same without proper explanation, it asserted.
Urging the Govt to address these issues within the current month, the ATSUM cautioned that whatever follows after the lapse of the deadline will be the sole responsibility of the Government.
