Imphal, June 24:
Citing lack of sufficient evidence, the FIR lodged in connection with the seizure of rice quota by the police subsequent to imposition of restriction in lifting the same by an underground organisation demanding 10 percent of the rice quota has been closed even as the seized rice has in the mean time rot away and rendered useless.

The rice quota in question was meant for implementation of Mid-Day Meal Scheme in Tamenglong district.
It was supposed to be provided to ZEO Tamenglong for the month of January 2005.The total quantity of the rice quota was 843.58 quintal.
The State Government had authorised the ZEO Tamenglong and SDC Tamenglong for lifting the same from the FCI godown at Sangaiprou. However, after an underground organisation imposed restriction on lifting the rice quota from the godown if 10 percent of the quota is not given to them, the then AI of ZEO Tamenglong lodged a complaint with DC Tamenglong in this regard. Consequently, on January 4, 2005, DC Tamenglong put up the complaint before the SP Imphal West.
