Imphal, April 22 2012:
The All Manipur Student Guardians' Organisation has alleged that RIMS, in spite of being the largest medical institution in the North East, has become a centre of corruption instead of imparting quality education and service to students and patients.
Speaking to media persons at their Palace Compound office this afternoon, advisor of the organisation N Tomba pointed out that RIMS established in 1972 is an institution meant for giving quality education to medical students and as well as health care service to the people.
However, even as many modern medical equipment and gadgets have been installed at RIMS, the institution is unable to provide any benefit of to the patients and people.
Moreover, the institution cannot provide study materials to its students in time.
Blaming the Director for the ills plaguing RIMS, Tomba questioned whether Dr Shekharjit fulfils the criteria prescribed by the Indian Medical Council to occupy the post of Director of an institution like RIMS.
To cite an example, Director of a medical institution like RIMS should be a Professor for at least five years to be eligible for the post of Director.
Even as the guidelines given by the Government state that Government doctors who receive 25 per cent non-practising allowance should not practise in private clinics, many doctors of RIMS have been working in different private clinics.
Moreover, Dr Shekharjit, instead of discharging his duty diligently as a Director, has been paying more attention to his personal agenda, Tomba alleged.
