Kangpokpi celebrates Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

As part of the first Nationwide observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, Kangpokpi district on Monday celebrated birth anniversary of the iconic tribal leader Birsa Munda to commemorate the glorious history, culture and achievements of tribal people.
The celebration organised by BJP ST Morcha Sadar Hills at Kangpokpi Town was attended by Lanjagai Kamei, president BJP ST Morcha Manipur Pradesh, Emmins J Philathing, treasurer BJP ST Morcha Manipur Pradesh, Mayangam Rungsung, convenor Media, Paokingai, Assistant Media.
The event hosted by Thangliensei Kipgen, president BJP ST Morcha Sadar Hills was also attended by various civil society organizations leaders, BJP workers, and local bodies.
Addressing the gathering, Lanjagai Kamei said, "as the Nation celebrates "Jayjatiya Gaurav Divas" for the first time after Independence, the art and culture, history, achievements and the immense contribution of tribal people towards the freedom struggle and nation-building is proudly remembered and honoured" .

He continued that it is a monumental moment for the tribal people that the Union Cabinet had decided to observe November 15 as a day dedicated to the tribal freedom fighters to commemorate and build awareness about the role of tribal freedom fighters and the glorious history of tribal people.
While paying tribute to the iconic tribal leader, Lanjagai Kamei highlighted that Birsa Munda, born on November 15 in 1875 was an Indian freedom fighter, religious leader, and folk hero from the Munda tribe of the Chhota Nagpur plateau area.
"He fought for the rights of the tribal people and one of his biggest fights against the British was when he gathered tribal people and marched for the remission of tax collected by the zamindars from the tribes in October 1894", he added.
BJP ST Morcha Sadar Hills president, Thangliensei Kipgen said that despite immense sacrifices and contribution of the tribal people in India's freedom movement, they were not given their dues by the earlier Governments and were deprived of basic facilities.
"The Prime Minister has rightly pointed out that despite the bravery and sacrifices made by tribal people during the freedom struggle, they were not given any space in history because of the lack of intent by the political parties which ruled in the states and at the centre for the last 70 years", he asserted.
As part of the event, leaders of BJP ST Morcha also paid floral tributes to the iconic tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda as a mark of respect and honour.
