Kohima, September 10 (PTI):
An eight-member Naga Hoho delegation, which arrived here after completing a three-day goodwill visit to Assam, described their journey as an important beginning in future relationship of the people of the region.
The delegation, which arrived here yesterday, categorically made it clear they went to Assam to solely strengthen Naga-Assamese relationship by undertaking the journey after 48 years when a similar visit was made in 1953 during the time of former Chief Minister B P Chaliha.
The purpose was not to gain political support or to talk about politics in the aftermath of Centre-NSCN (IM) agreement although some people might have thought that was the purpose of the mission, Naga Hoho president M Vero told newsmen here today.
The apex Naga council chief also clarified that the Hoho delegation made no statement on Naga sovereignty, contrary to reports in a section of the press.
He said the Hoho's journey of friendship, understanding and brotherhood was welcome and received with such warmth by the people of Assam that the delegation, was accorded the status of State guests, which moved the team.
The delegation also met wives of former Assam Chief Minister GP Bardoloi and BP Chaliha.
The latter was a member of three-member peace mission, which brokered first ever ceasefire in Nagaland in 1964 between the centre and NNC.
