The task force recently formed to tackle the" difficulties faced by the citizens of Imphal will make a tour of the Imphal municipal area tomorrow to take stock first hand of the problems plaguing the city.
The commissioner, MAHUD, Ch Birendra Singh also told IFF that the task force would pay special attention to the condition of the roads, street lighting, problems in water supply, and the garbage problem faced in the Imphal bazar area.
The Task force, which is led by Birendra also includes the district commissioners of Imphal east and Imphal west districts, the chief engineers of the power, public works and public health engineering departments, the director, MAHUD, principal chief conservator of forests, and director, state health services.
The tusk force would also look into the condition of the Kangla moat.
The commissioner also disclosed that a daily monitoring committee would also be formed by MAHUD and the Imphal Municipal Council to monitor on a constant basis the cleanliness of Imphal city.
Observing that the Imphal Municipal Council has not been able to implement the Imphal beatification competition that was earlier announced by the Governor, he said this would also be handled through the monitoring committee.
It may be mentioned that employees of the Imphal Municipal Council have only recently returned to work after a prolonged strike following an agreement reached on their demands on August 30 last.
The government had promised that six months' pending salaries would be paid and excess staff appointed in the IMC would be removed.
