A women's convention, organized by the All Manipur Nupi Marup, today at the Nupilal Complex strongly stressed the need to maintain communal harmony in the state and condemned the "communal forces�.
The convention, which was held under the theme of integrity and communal harmony, was attended by general secretary of National Federation of Indian Women Amarjit Kaur as the chief guest.
Prof Ksh Bimola Devi, Dr Sarojini, deputy director of art and culture; VL Liani, AIR Imphal station director, Laljan Begum, Ima Kombi, Ima Sakhi, Sitara Begum, Ima Chaobi, Dr Jamini, Dr Renu and Ima Ibeni were among those who attended the meeting.
The convention reaffirmed the resolution of earlier women's convention to oppose the dress code imposed by a militant group and felt that the society needs to move forward and not to retrogress.
The convention also adopted a resolution to demand the immediate setting up of a women's commission in the state.
Amarjit Kaur, while praising the role of womenfolk in Manipur, urged the participants to strive for preservation of women's rights.
She also said traffickers of children from the state to other states should be punished immediately.
