However, as the people and the students felt that post mortem would not be conducted, the enraged crowd marched towards the Chief Minister's official residence.
But they were blocked by police at Keishampat.
Later in the afternoon, some representatives including leaders of the student bodies were allowed to meet the Chief Minister.
During the talk, the student leaders came to an understanding with the Chief Minister after which the corpse was handed over to family members for last rites.
Chief Minister O Ibobi reportedly assured the student representatives that the case will be discussed in a Cabinet meeting and compensation will be provided to the family of the deceased.
The Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary and the State DGP will ask their UP counter parts to furnish a detailed report on the case, assured Ibobi.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the student representatives maintained that if the assurances of the Chief Minister are not given in black and white by September 11, agitation of all sorts will be launched.
Saying that the student bodies will give due attention to the suspicious death case of Kishan, PC Newton of DESAM asserted that the summary conclusion of UP Police and manager of the Mangal Lodge, Binod where Kishan was lodged, that Kishan committed suicide without conducting any investigation only revealed the prejudiced and racial mindset of mainland Indians towards the people of North East.
He also decried the silence of the State Government even as a week had passed after the death of Kishan.
Nongmaithem Kishan s/o Modhu of Nachou Mayai Leikai went to Guwahati by air on August 31.One September 1, he boarded the Rajdhani Express for Benaras where he was planning to appear in a job interview.
But on September 3, Kishan's family was informed by the manager of the hotel that Kishan was found dead.
