Imphal, September 09:
Decrying non-inclusion of any elected representative of Chandel district in the Council of Ministers in the SPF Government, the KSO Chandel has questioned if there is any Cabinet decision or understanding to give a ministerial berth only when the ruling MLA is a Naga and to deny the post if he/she is a Kuki.
A statement issued by the student body recalled that of the two elected representatives from Chandel district who were present in the ruling coalition of the previous Government, one was given Cabinet ministerial berth.
It further accused the SPF Government of intentionally neglecting the people of Chandel district by excluding the lone ruling MLA from the district who unquestionably deserves a Ministerial berth.
Even as the Ministerial team who visited Moreh on May 5, promised to provide one truck load of rice to the displaced families taking shelter there, nothing has come of it.
Rather, the unfulfilled promise has become a cause of strong suspicion and misunderstanding between the suffering displaced families and the Relief Committee, observed KSO further.
Asserting that the situation in Chandel would have been much better and many development programmes could have been streamlined and implemented effectively had the Chandel district was represented among the Council of Ministers, the KSO appealed to the State Government not to sidestep the interest and aspiration of the indigenous tribes living in the border belts while implementing the Look East Policy.
