Imphal, September 09:
Even though all preparations have been completed for broadcasting news programmes from the DDK Imphal, the project has not been able to materialize till today due to the non-appointment of an editor of the news unit, disclosed a senior official of DDK Imphal.
Mention may be made here that former Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley during his visit to the State in 1999 had assured to launch a news programme from the DDK Imphal within 90 days after his visit.
As per the assurance given by the then Minister during his visit, the transmitter of Imphal station has been upgraded to 10 KW from 1 KW thus improving the transmission facilities, said the officials.
He however added that upgrading of the Ukhrul and Moreh transmitters are yet to be completed as the Union Ministry is yet give its approval.
Informing that the Centre has already given the green signal for upgrading the DDK Imphal to Digital Permanent Earth Station (DPES), the official said that all necessary sophisticated equipment would be brought here from the DDK Guwahati.
He also said that upgradation of the DDK Imphal to DPES would allow the DDK to have a separate channel of its own besides providing facilities to viewers all over India to see programmes of DDK Imphal.
The senior official also informed that a new equipment called the "Micro-Web-link" have also been inducted and this will help in showing live events occurring within a radius of five Kms from the area where the equipment is installed.
The new equipment will greatly help in live telecasting sports events in the State, said the official.
Referring to allegations made against the DDK Imphal on the distribution of KU-Band Transmission (dish antennas), the official said that allegations are baseless and had been made due to lack of communication and misunderstanding with the DIPR.
He further informed that the Prashar Bharati chief Executive Officer KS Sharma had sent a letter to the State's chief secretary instructing him to provide Dish antennas to all the areas of the State where TV signal are impossible to reach.
However, the DIPR officials instead of providing the Dish Antennae to the areas identified by the concerned DCs issued a notification asking the public to send in their applications if they wanted to acquire a Dish antenna.
He further clarified that 20 KU band Transmission antennas were given twenty voluntary orgns after the DIPR authorities failed to submit the names of the twenty beneficiaries to the DDK.
