Imphal, September 09:
While touching upon a wide range of issues currently gripping the State in the wake of the agitation to demand the removal of AFSPA from Manipur, the SPF legislature party meeting held today discussed and agreed at looking into the possibility of releasing arrested agitators if the law and order situation improves.
Presided by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who is also the Home in charge, the meeting lasting over four hours discussed the class boycott agitation launched by the student community.
On release of persons detained under NSA, the SPF legislators were unanimous on freeing the agitators if the agitation intensity subsides and if there are signs of improvement in the law and order condition, sources said.
With the class boycott agitation posing the main hurdle to restoration of tranquility members present at the meeting acknowledged the concern of the parents/guardians due to closure of education institutions in various parts of the State.
While expressing optimism that student organizations spearheading the class boycott agitation will accept appeals of the parents/guardians, the SPF legislators also urged organizations concerned to relax their agitation in the interest of the student community.
With intelligence inputs pointing toward the organizations calling off the class boycott stir, the meeting hailing the said move as positive expressed classes could resume at the earliest.
