UCM reaffirms pledge to protect Manipur's territorial integrity

Imphal, May 09 2012: Reaffirming commitments of the united Committee Manipur for protecting the territorial integrity and promoting communal harmony amongst various ethnic communities settled in Manipur marked the oath taking ceremony of the Committee's new president Yumnam Nabachandra and other office bearers.

speaking at the oath taking and get-together programme at Lamyanba Shanglen in Palace compound today, UCM secretary (HRD) Ng Deba informed that decision to appoint the new president and 25 other office bearers for the 2012-2015 term was adopted at its general body meeting held on May 3 .

The new office bearers will include Yumnam Nabachandra and khumanthem Chandramani as the president and vice president respectively while joychandra Konthoujam and Ngangom Deba as the general secretary and information and public relations secretary respectively.

Sharing his agenda while in office, Nabachandra said UCM will work with all the civil society organisations of Manipur towards protecting Manipur's territorial integrity.

Opining that various public movement on important issues tend to lose its impact due to lack of cohesion and unanimity amongst different NGOs, he urged all concerned to contribute their mite in the endeavour of the civil society organisations to promote peace and unity in the State.

Confiding that he would consult intellectual members of the society on every important issues and strive to work with cohesion with other NGOs, Nabachandra reiterated that his priority would be on protecting Manipur's territorial integrity and forge unity among the ethnic people.

He also expressed keen desire to reach out to the hill people to understand their sentiment and aspirations.

As chief guest of the event, retired Judge C Upendra, who administered the oath of office to the new office bearers, recounted various activities of the UCM towards protecting the territorial integrity and promoting unity amongst different ethnic communities settled in Manipur.

Reminding that sinister intentions of all the adversary forces could be thwarted only through unity among the civil society organisations, he called upon all concerned to work with sincerity and conviction.

Among others former presidents of the Committee also attended the solemn event.
