The State Government has identified two suitable spots where the proposed composite check post could be set up in the border town of Moreh for further development of the ongoing border trade relation between the neighbouring countries of Myanmar and India.
On the other hand, though the Myanmarese authority has favoured inclusion of trade items from a third country, Indian authority is yet to give its nod on the matter.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a top official of the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Manipur said though a final decision on the where the composite check post would be set up in Moreh has yet not been taken, the State Govt has already identity two suitable spots.
While informing that a sum of Rs 70 crores has been sanctioned for necessary infrastructural developments at Moreh including setting up of the proposed composite check post, the official said though the Myanmarese authority approves inclusion of trade items from third country in the ongoing border trade with India, a final Cabinet decision on the matter from the side of the Govt of India is still awaited.
To a question on the report of halt in the import and export activities of the border trade between the two neighbouring countries over the issue, the official clarified that the border trade would continue on the already specified trade items till an understanding has been reached on inclusion of trade items of a third country.
The Union Minister of Commerce and Industries who visited the State recently had also given the assurance that the matter would be sorted out very soon, the official added.
The official further disclosed that the two neighbouring countries are not in favour of reducing the numbers of 22 authorised check posts currently existing between Moreh and Dimapur.
