Inaugurated ISBT stands soiled, sullied

Imphal, May 03 2012:
The Khuman Lampak Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) which is not yet fully complete is most likely to lose its sheen and elegance as a large of number of oil tankers have been parked there in the most haphazard manner.
Though Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh inaugurated the ISBT on December 3 last year, the construction work has not been fully completed.
As such, the deadline for comple tion has been extended by six months.
Waiting sheds as well as the main building of the ISBT have not been given the finishing touch as yet.
Electrification work is yet to get off the ground and construction work of toilets and bathrooms are only half-finished.
The way from the entrance gate to the exit gate is not yet ready.
So far, the road work has proceeded only upto the WBM stage.
Development of parking bays is yet to be completed.

In spite of its ill-equipped condition, around 100 oil tankers are being parked on the lanes including the parking bays inside the ISBT.
There is water, nor latrines nor bathrooms for around 200 transporters who are putting at ISBT together with their trucks.
Though the interior road of the ISBT has been completed up to WBM stage, the road has worn out and indentation as deep as one foot has developed due to continuous movement of heavy trucks on the unfinished road.
There is not a decent place which can serve as kitchen for transporters.
There is no care-taker who would look after the oil tankers being parked inside the unfinished ISBT.
One oil tanker driver told The Sangai Express that they were made to park their tankers inside ISBT until their tankers are unloaded at the IOC depot.
It usually takes two to three days when waiting for their turns to unload oil at the depot but there is provision for water nor bathroom nor toilet.
The transporters putting up there cook their meals in the waiting sheds.
When they cannot hold back any longer, transporters defecate in the vacant strip of land between the wall of the waiting shed and the wall of the ISBT campus.
As the same practice has been going on for the last many days, the whole area has become unbearably filthy and stinky, conveyed the driver.
