Imphal, May 03 2012:
With the Government of India not giving the green signal to hike the price of diesel, the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is running into huge losses and its capacity to continue sale of diesel has come under severe strain.
Talking with The Sangai Express, NRL Sales Officer Moasunep Sanowal said that the losses on sale of diesel have been accumulating every single day at the existing prices and the company's capacity to continue with the same business has been seriously threatened.
As per the rates reviewed in December last year, the price of diesel is Rs 35410.27 per Kl.
Adding Rs 4780.39 (13.5 per cent) for sales tax and Rs 912 for dealers commission, the actual price of diesel offered by NRL in Manipur is Rs 41102.66 .
At Imphal, the price of diesel offered by NRL is Rs 41.11 per litre which means a loss of Rs 13 per litre to the company.

It implies that the company has been losing Rs 13000 for every kilolitre of diesel sold in Manipur.
There is no provision for any kind of subsidy for the deficit amount from the side of the Government of India.
To make up the loss, a proposal was made to hike the price of diesel but the same proposal was turned down by the Government of India.
Under the prevailing circumstances, NRL has been facing a serious dilemma whether it should continue selling diesel in Manipur or not, conveyed the Sales Officer.
In view of the huge loss being suffered by the company, it has made certain arrangements to supply only the exact quantity of diesel oil required in Manipur.
According to the newly adopted measures, a quota system has been enforced in all retail outlets operating in Manipur since April.
In line with the quota system, 384 Kls of diesel were sold from NRL Energy Station, Mantripukhri during April, 148 Kls from NRL Energy Station, Khurai, 104 Kls from NRL Energy Station Thoubal and 44 Kls from NRL Singjamei.
