A mammoth gathering of all sections of the Kuki society including public and religious leaders, students and political activists attended a meeting held in connection with the meeting of Kuki delegation with the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Home Minister LK Advani regarding the crisis in Manipur after the announcement of proposed extension of the NSCN (IM) ceasefire to Manipur and other North Eastern States.
While reporting their consultations with the Indian leaders, the delegations besides appraising the turmoil in the State after the truce extension, urged the Prime Minister not to enter into any agreement with the NSCN (IM) before settling the issue of rehabilitations of Kukis displaced by the alleged ethnic cleansing drive of the Naga outfit.
The delegation also expressed strong resentment over the extension of the ceasefire boundary beyond Nagaland borders.
The Prime Minister after giving a patient hearing to the delegation stated that he (PM) will give cognizance to the fact that Manipur is inhabited by Nagas, Kakis, Meiteis and other communities and take appropriate measures to ensure the territorial integrity of Manipur, the delegation informed the meeting.
After the report by the delegation at the meeting it was resolved unanimously that the delegation presented to the Prime Minister the true wishes of the Kuki people and also praised the PM for respecting the Kuki views and grievances.
Pledge for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur was also resolved at the meeting.
Meanwhile the Kuki Inpi, Manipur, KSO and Manipur Kuki Women Union said they have no knowledge of formation of Kuki Inpi International.
