Kohima, August 02 (PTI):
Naga Hoho, the apex tribal council and Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) today said they would work together to find a just and final settlement to the Naga political problem and appealed to all to exercise maximum restraint even in the face of extreme provocations.
"We are committed to peace and finding a just and final settlement of the Naga issue," Hoho president M Vero and NBCC director (Peace Affairs) Rev Kari Longchar said in a joint statement.
Expressing dismay over the Centre's decision to limit the ceasefire in Nagaland, they said it had naturally sparked anger in some quarters.
The Nagas will not tolerate anyone derailing the peace process, and therefore, let there be no provocations neither from security forces nor NSCN(I-M), they said and urged both sides to refrain from taking any hasty and precipitate action.
The Centre by going back on its commitment made in June 14 Bangkok agreement, was unmindful of its own honor.
The decision on the rollback on July 27 had shocked the Nagas as media reports said NSCN(IM) leadership was not consulted on the issue during the recent Amsterdam talks.
Stating that the present Juncture is a defining moment for the Nagas, the two said they were ready to meet the neighboring communities for a better understanding and extended solidarity with those living in the Naga inhabited areas outside the State.
