Imphal, August 02 (PTI):
Security personnel guarding a convoy of vehicles coming from Dimapur towards Imphal along NH39 were forced to open fire after the convoy was stoned by supporters of the 72 hour highway blockade called by some Naga organizations in protest against the Centre's decision to limit the NSCN(IM) ceasefire to Nagaland.
The incident took place near Taphou bazar, under Mao police station.
Several vehicles in the convoy consisting of altogether 18 vehicles, suffered damage in the stone throwing, according to reports.
Some MR personnel on escort duty were also reportedly injured.
There were no casualties in the firing by the security personnel, The IS vehicles which reached Imphal this afternoon include four LPG carriers and two private buses.
Reports also said that vehicles coming from Dimapur and bound for Imphal were also stoned by bandh supporters inside Nagaland and several were damaged.
Over a 100 Manipur bound trucks are reported to be currently stranded at Jakhama, on the Manipur-Nagaland border.
