Altogether 1902 strips of SP capsules worth around Rs 1.80 lakh in black market have been seized from the possession of one Salim Shah (49) of Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil by a combined team of 12 Maratha Light Infantry and Imphal West commandos yesterday.
Md Salim Shah is reported to be a Science Graduate teacher at Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai High Madrassa.
Displaying the seized items before media persons today, Imphal West SDPO AK Jhaljit said that acting on a specific information the combined team was undertaking patrolling and frisking exercise in Hiyangthang area.
This was followed by raids in some houses at Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil.
The seizure was made when the combined force raided the house of Salim Shah s/o late Nasir Ali.
The SDPO also conveyed that police have learnt about the involvement of Salim's brother in-law Md Azad alias Gypsy s/o Md Zoula of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai in smuggling the SP capsules.
Md Azad alias Gypsy is an active cadre of PULF (MI Khan faction).
A Gypsy reportedly left behind by Azad at the home of Salim was also seized by the security forces.
Following the seizure and the subsequent disclosure, Police have strong suspicion that the armed outfit (PULF) might have been actively involved in the illicit trade of SP capsules.
Police have registered a case in connection with the seizure, added the source.
