A SIT-IN protest staged at Thoubal Bazar today has called underground groups and armed organizations in the state to stop converting education sector and its related institutions has money earning centre.
Today's sit-in protest was carried out as a part of its continuing demand for becoming education sector a free zone along with street corner meetings organized by the Co-ordinating Committee on Free Zone to Education Sectors in various places of the state.
The series of sit-in protest and street corner meetings have been organizing to urge the underground organizations and other armed groups to exempt education sectors from all sort of monetary demand and save the life of the students who are the pillar of the future nation, said a spokesperson of the co-ordinating committee.
"It is a very unfortunate thing that armed groups as well as underground groups considering education centres money source centre," Tekcham Rameshwor, president, Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association speaking at a street corner meeting held at Thoubal Bazar during the sit-in protest.
He also recalled the massive rally in Imphal carried out recently regarding the demand for a free to education sectors and said that as result of the call of the people, he got information that NSCN(IM) had announced free to schools having Standard-I to VIII.
He further appealed other underground groups to follow the same suit considering for the future of the students.
Undergrounds should stop taking percentage from construction of school buildings, from supply of materials as well as from the teachers and governing bodies of the schools, he demanded.
