Campaign on enhancing millet production held

Imphal, April 20 2022:
KVK Chandel, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre conducted a campaign on "Enhancing Millet Production for increasing farm income" as a part of Mega Campaign of Annadata Devo Bhava under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on Wednesday at Purum Chumbang village in Chandel district.
While delivering the keynote address, head in-charge Dr Y Prabhabati Devi (subject matter specialist-Home Science) informed the farmers that Millet is one of the important nutri-cereals which have high nutraceutical and medicinal value and also a good source of fibre which helps in the reduction of colon cancer.
She emphasised that Millet is also a good source of antioxidant which helps in fighting free radicals and keeps the body healthy.
She encouraged the farmers to cultivate Millet for health and doubling their income.
During the technical session, resource person subject matter specialist (Plant Breeding) Ts Leenda Monsang elaborated on Millet varieties, seed production technologies and cultivation practices.
Sorghum variety CSV -27 seeds were also distributed to the farmers.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by subject matter specialist (Horticulture) Ps Lavid Anal.
The campaign programme was attended by Vision 2020 Asia Beyond Network president Rev Yulhung Halpu Chothe and Selrung Village Authority's Marim Rimdam Chothe along with 47 farmers.
