Imphal, June 17 2021:
The curfew imposed by the state government to curb the spread of the second wave of the pandemic is practically almost non-existent in Sekmai, United Development Organisation (UDO) has stated.
In a statement, UDO said that there is non-stop vehicular movement along the roads of Sekmai.
As such, there is no observance of Covid SOP in the area with Sekmai police personnel being unable to enforce the same, thereby leading to the spread of the virus.
The statement further condemned the beating of International Human Rights Association Manipur general secretary by Sekmai police.
According to police, the general secretary was beaten up because he refused to accept the TR and also objected to detention of other curfew violators.
"If a person refuses to obey the law he/she must be punished, but it is not right to mete out preferential treatment for some people.
Thus, the police personnel involved in the incident must be punished as per the law of the land", UDO demanded, while urging Sekmai police to properly maintain/en- force the curfew in areas under its jurisdiction.
